The Cantigny First Division Oral Histories digital collection includes forty high definition video oral history interviews with veterans of the U.S. Army's First Infantry Division, commonly known as the 'Big Red One.' The goal of the project was to preserve the memories of the soldiers whose military service occurred around the globe since World War II. The interviews were conducted with veterans then residing in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.
The interviews were conducted by students Chris Reidy, Steven Brown, and Rachel (Fulton) Coleman from the Ball State University History Department under the supervision of history professors Dr. Michael William Doyle and Dr. David Ulbrich. The Ball State University Teleplex videotaped the interviews and they were transcribed by Ball State University Libraries staff.
Copies of the interviews and transcripts are also available at the Robert R. McCormick Research Center at the First Division Museum in Wheaton, Ill and Ball State University Libraries Archives and Special Collections.
