Artist Statement	There are certain moments in our lives that will stay with us forever. Whether it is positive or negative, an experience or a feeling can transcend time and make a lasting impact on the person that we will eventually become. Each individual bears these marks, but it is up to them whether they are displayed as scars or trophies. This series of photographs is a representation of my own battle wounds. Within the past few years of my life, I have run the gamut of emotions; happiness at figuring out the person that I truly am, grief over lost love and dear friends, anger at the discrimination and judgment that I have faced. These, coupled with the events that have occurred throughout my brief twenty-three year existence, are what have brought me to be the person that I am today; never completely satisfied, looking for new ways to improve while finding myself, but always smiling nonetheless. With each image, I have personified the tragic and joyful events of my life, those that have affected me the most. I give them an identity, a set of eyes with which to look at the viewer and confront them with the situation they find themselves in. By using both young and old models, I'm showing that we all have these moments in life, times when we feel completely lost or alone or so happy that we think we'll burst from it, regardless of our age or what stage in life we happen to be in. It is my hope that each and every person that looks at my photos can identify with at least one of them. Music is a major passion of mine, and along with art, is always there when I need it, whether as an outlet or a source of comfort. I chose lyrics as the titles of my pieces and series ("Songs For You, Truths For Me" by James Morrison) because I find that they say what I can't express myself. Each line correlates to the image, offering further insight into my thought process and the emotion or experience portrayed within each photograph. The lines from the songs may be familiar or foreign to the casual viewer. Regardless, each line stands as a representation of the photo and intent behind it. As this chapter of my life comes to a close, I would like to offer a major thanks to Jacinda Russell for her endless support, encouragement, and sound advice and to Serena Nancarrow for her extreme patience with me over the course of the past four years. To my fellow photo majors, thank you for being a constant source of inspiration, always having my back, and being the best wine connoisseurs I could have asked for. It's been a long, crazy ride, but you've all made it one of the best times I've ever had and I can't thank you enough.
