Artist Statement	This series of pieces is based on the concept of reality versus fantasy. I've used influences from industrial steampunk art styles and natural forms, as well as a combination of the traditional technique of repousse and the modern technology of anodizing, to create this collection. These influences lead to a series of interactive, insect-themed jewelry pieces. The realistic basis of these pieces is tempered by the industrial style with which I've rendered them. The bodies of the individual insects are designed with a stylized, almost mechanical nature. On the other hand, the wings are based on detailed studies of the transparent cells, color patterns, and natural beauty that real insect wings possesses. Because of my fidgety nature, I became interested in interactive jewelry. This interest inspired me to create the toy-like features of the pieces in this collection. The wings of each piece are mounted in such a way as to allow the wearer to fiddle with and spin them while worn. This provides the wearer with an outlet for any nervous twitches or fidgets. It can also provide a little extra fun and entertainment in an otherwise dull and boring situation. As a child, I was fascinated with butterflies and often went on butterfly hunts in the meadow behind my house. Insect collections have always inspired me for their beauty and often unusual specimens. I have become more and more interested in different winged insects for their shapes, color and unique qualities.
