Title
Who
Am
I
?
Artist
Wimmer, Amber
Subject - LCSH

Ball State University--Students
Exhibition Date
2012
Artist Statement
When
I
titled
my
show
"
Please
Touch
the
Art
"
I
really
meant
it
. An
important
part
of the
concept
of this
exhibition
is
that the
work
is
engaging
,
interactive
, and
easy
to
relate
to.
I
want
to
blur
some
of the
lines
between
"
high
"
art
and "
low
"
art
by
asking
the
viewer
to
think
about
how they have been
influenced
by
art
in
each
aspect
of their
life
.
Most
people
wouldn't
think
of
lampshades
or
tablecloths
when
they
think
of
art
, but the
exhibition
is
pushing
the
viewer
to not
think
of these
things
as
simple
everyday
objects
, but as a
form
of
art
to be
admired
and
appreciated
.
Blurring
the
lines
and
forcing
viewers
to
reconsider
their
perception
of what
is
art
is
something
that
I
feel
is
very
important
to
understanding
art
as a
whole
.
I
also
want
to
make
the
viewer
think
about
themselves
.
It
may
seem
harsh
, but
considering
the
popularity
of
things
like
Facebook
,
Twitter
and
other
social
media
sites
it
is
almost
undeniable
that this
generation
is
self-obsessed
. The
viewer
is
made
to
ask
themselves
how the
works
fit
into their
life
,
reflect
on their
own
values
and
think
about
how
art
has
influenced
them in the
past
.
Touching
all
of the
art
in that
particular
part
of the
gallery
is
encouraged
.
It
seems
like
the
times
when
people
did
their
research
in a
library
or
sat
down
with an
actual
book
and
took
time
out
of their
day
to
read
and
enjoy
themselves
is
almost
nonexistent
.
It
is
a
goal
of
people
today
to
get
more
done
in
less
time
with
minimal
amount
of
thinking
or
effort
.
I
want
to
encourage
viewers
to
do
less
in a
larger
amount
of
time
with a
maximum
amount
of
thought
and
self-reflection
. The
current
generation
also
does
not
give
much
thought
to their
own
mortality
.
Several
pieces
in the
show
are
made
to
make
the
viewer
reflect
upon
their
values
and
realize
the
fragility
of
human
lives
.
It
is
common
to
see
stories
of
death
and
destruction
in
newspaper
headlines
and
5
o'clock
news
specials
, but
it
seems
like
our
lives
and
deaths
have been
so
sensationalized
and
we
have
gotten
so
detached
that
we
fail
to
truly
consider
what
our
lives
mean
and how
short
they
really
are.
Art
has been
used
as a
way
to
help
people
better
understand
and
express
themselves
as
well
as
played
a
large
part
in
influencing
and
teaching
others
about
things
such
as
religious
beliefs
and
values
.
It
seems
common
for
individuals
to
go
through
their
lives
without
consideration
as to what
makes
life
worth
living
or
giving
thought
to the
quality
of their
own
lives
.
I
want
to
thank
my
family
for their
support
and
all
my
professors
from
Ball
State
University
for
being
wonderful
and
helping
to
shape
not
only
the
artist
but the
person
that
I
am
today
.
I
want
to
thank
Dave
Johnson
and
Ken
Preston
for
being
amazing
printmaking
professors
and
helping
me
grow
.
I
especially
would
like
to
thank
Sarojini
Johnson
for
being
my
mentor
and
guiding
me
all
the
way
from
Foundations
to
my
senior
thesis
.
