Artist Statement	I am creating art that represents my own abilities and excel from those abilities, not from the political or social influences around me. Too often I believe a series of work can use a strong concept as a crutch. While there is nothing wrong with a central theme I try to avoid a conceptual meaning and tie my work together with media and technique instead. The strongest way for me to tie my work together is the processes and techniques I use to make the work. With several of the same techniques and processes spread across different mediums my work remains representational of me as the artist. I view my work as the key to my future success hopefully leading me to a graduate program and a career of my choosing. I strive to be a common name among the art world and strive to see my work hung in galleries around the country. I chose Lithography because of the physical nature of the media. If I want a piece that is complex with unique variations in the washes and drawings I am less aggressive and gently apply the media. If I want a piece to be viewed as a whole from a far where the little intricate details are not as important I use more force and manipulate the materials in a very different way. With lithography I have plenty of time preparing each individual stone which allows me to think through the decisions I am about to make and question if what I want to create is worth all the energy of preparing the stone. Sometimes I will think through my process and choose a new approach all together based just on my desire to treat the stone in a different way than I have before. With this body of work I am trying to reach out and move beyond restricting myself to representational imagery. I want to develop myself as an artist along with myself as a person. I have completely changed as a person in the past two years alone, which has drastically changed how I approach my art. The desire to leave the constraints that were holding me back have also helped me push my art work and rule out elements that I felt were holding me into a pattern or keeping me from moving forward. I want to challenge the thought that modern art requires a concept. I want to try and create art to represent my abilities and excel from my own abilities not from the political or social influences around me. I want to give special thanks to my parents Margo and Todd who have always stood steadfast by my side with all the support and love I could ever ask for. I would also like to thank the printmaking faculty with special thanks to Kenneth Preston for his guidance and assistance throughout the years.
