Artist Statement	This body of work is a commentary on our societies dependence on pharmaceuticals. Growing up in America we are bombarded by advertisements about medication for a variety of conditions both severe and minor. We are taught at an early age that medicine can fix everything. I have seen how medicine and pharmaceutical products can harm and help people. Individuals get caught up in the easy fix without actually thinking about what they are putting in their bodies. The paintings are my personal observation about our multi-leveled predicament concerning the legitimate uses of medication against the manipulation of the pharmaceutical companies marketing strategies. I have populated my paintings with metaphorical imagery and bleak settings that question our willing participation in this ongoing search for balance. The characters in my paintings are a representation of the struggle between the individual, humanity, technology, and moral cultural constructs. I want to thank Scott Anderson and the rest of the Faculty here at Ball State for working with me this semester to create this body of work. This year has been a long one and they really pushed me as an artist to keep moving forward in my artwork. I also want to thank my family for supporting me through this whole journey, without them I would not be here.
