Artist Statement	This exhibition is an illustration of our race's metaphorical road of existence. Riddled with stoplights but no intersections, the drawings question who gives us our rules, why they are given, when they are given, etc.. We live in a time of great transition. Many benefits offered by participation in an organized religion, like comfort from the fear of the unknown and soda( networking, are being replaced by new technological mechanisms. It seems we as a race are moving away from spiritual aspects of life, and devoting more energy to perpetuating a cycle of existence which will likely cause the demise of the qualities which make our planet inhabitable. As individuals we each have our own rules to follow, and every situation or interaction introduced has many aspects which can be taken into consideration. It is for this reason that the stoplight has been referenced throughout this body of work. Stoplights are comparable to messengers that govern when to do, and when not to do something. While these messengers have this ability to convince the majority of people who encounter them; it is ultimately the choice of the individual to follow along or not. An essential component of balance has been instilled throughout the work. Each piece has an obvious top and bottom segment, two opposing forces, which interact in a manner intended to convey thoughts on positives and negatives, and the tendency for duality's presence in all aspects of life. Due to the size of some of the pieces to be exhibited, I decided on displaying these drawings on scrolls. This also works conceptually as the information being conveyed is what I would consider to be sacred in the modern times, and is worth taking the time to be put on large paper by hand as holy books once were.
