Artist Statement	The premise of this body of work is to show the degradation of unique handmade forms and also reflects the toss of traditions in today's society. We live in a world that promotes materialism and the idea of perfection, obtained with as little work as possible. Everything that we interact with throughout the day is flawless and disposable. My work celebrates the human touch left in time. Whether be destructive or beautiful. Too often in Life people don't take responsibility for their actions and disregard the consequences. This just leaves the situations to stay in a state of disrepair. I believe this is caused by a tack of dedication and pride that one should value. This way of thinking to me is just a product of our generation. I observe countless times people detaching themselves from what is happening around them and not caring about what is going on right before their eyes. Nothing is ever permanent everything is just temporary pleasures. People don't cherish the beauty of investing time into an idea. The world has grown away from the idea of hard work being rewarding everything now is instantaneous. My work has many influences some of which are; Mark Rothko, Peter Voulkos, Abstract expressionism, Wabi Sabi, Traditional Japanese ceramics, Industrial objects, and natures effect on surfaces. I also draw inspiration from the values and ideals of today's society to those of the past. There have been many individuals who have guided and supported me in these years that I have been at Ball State. I would like to thank Ted Neal for introducing me to traditional and contemporary ways of working with clay and encouraging me to find my own style. I would like to thank Vance Belt for teaching me that craftsmanship is keys to a successful piece of art and for guiding me in the completion of a solid body of work. I would like to thank my Fianc Angie Kioultzopoulos for supporting me through all those countless hours I spent in studio. I would like to think my parents Dave and Libby Knoche for encouragement and support throughout my academic career.
