Artist Statement	For my senior project in painting I am exploring anatomical structures in humans regardless of sex, race and nationality. My paintings are intended to spur the viewer to consider how our culture regards the impact of these primal anatomical structures in our everyday lives. By exploring the negative aspect that humans contribute to understanding their relationship with nature the paintings illuminate that which we are unable to accept. Many behaviors, practices and instincts commonly found in the animal kingdom that are considered "normal" are in human cultures considered radical or deviant. The animal images in the paintings along with the human anatomy link the viewer to match the imagery with the corresponding titles. I believe that the first step towards the acceptance of others is through education and my goal in these paintings is to encourage the viewer to deeper thoughts. I am stressing the importance that gender roles and stereotypes play in our lives and the negative implications they can carry. How we see others and ourselves reflect our way of thinking and ultimately how we live. My goal is to undress these negative stereotypes to the point of taboo. I hope to translate these ideas and images into visually shared experiences for the viewer. I would like to thank my family and friends who have provided me much support and encouragement over the past few years in completion of my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. I would also like to thank all of my professors at Ball State, most notably my painting instructors David Hannon, Hannah Barnes and especially my faculty mentor Scott Anderson.
