Artist Statement	For my senior project, I wanted to express my disappointment with the media and the current states of public interest. I decided to use newspapers as a symbol of destructive mass information, due to their current decline and future obsolescence. Growing up, my mother exposed me to the fine arts at an early age, something I am thankful for. However, when I was old enough to have money of my own; it was quickly squandered on Comic Books, their influence bathing me like cosmic radiation. Presentation of a comic plays the largest aspect for me; specifically the way pages are broken down into panels and how titanic imagery is cramped into a tight space. Liechtenstein's work with comic books is inspiring, specifically his treatment of individual comic book panels as singular compositions. My work reflects this by breaking out of the standard square format, opting to work on pieces of wood, which also adds a textural and dimensional quality I've found very appealing. While I draw from the heavy symbolism and kinetic energy comics present, I find the figurative element to be uncomfortably literal, I prefer the loose gestural qualities of Philip Guston and the colorful minimalism of Keith Haring. I mixed this with my love for the colossal atomic movie monsters of the 60's to create my subjects. I'd like to thank my mentor and friend Scott Anderson, my childhood idol Godzilla, and my parents for their constant love and support.
