Artist Statement	The last few years have brought tremendous changes to my life. It has been a time of growth and self-exploration, of testing my beliefs and boundaries. Unfortunately, I feel unable to share my personal developments with the people I know best because I fear that they might not understand or accept these changes in me. I don't want relationships to be destroyed or altered. I don't want to change the way they think of me or the way we interact. I am uncomfortable expressing these thoughts and opinions to anyone face-to-face. I produced this work in search of a release to the tension between what I have become and what is expected of me. Ironically, I find it easier to publicly convey these extremely private feelings and experiences rather than speak directly to the few intimate persons that these issues involve. Hidden Revelations explores some of the changes and events that have happened in my personal life in the past few years. I am trying to visually represent the emotions and thoughts that I've been hiding from everyone I know, and yet I am still unwilling to fully reveal myself, so each piece is merely a fragment of the situation that I feel unable to discuss. By layering words and imagery these pieces convey a sense of being trapped or suppressed, like the things about me that have changed and are struggling to get out, nearly visible under the surface but distorted and indistinct. I have chosen to work not only with photography, but also with a mixture of painting and drawing materials. I have layered multiple image transfers with a variety of medias, obscuring them to create an indefinite ambiguity. Each image is emblematic of a thought, time or experience. Some of the images are meaningless to others, but significant to me because of the specific moment they represent in my memory. I feel that this work tells a part of my story, as if it were a visual depiction of my inner feelings. I would like to thank Jacinda Russell-my faculty advisor and project mentor, for all her direction and support, Mark Sawrie, for years of helpful advice and instruction, and Serena Nancarrow, for her endless lenience and accommodation. And thanks to my family and all my classmates and professors for everything you've done to help make this project possible. Everyone I've spent time with has taught me something, and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to know you all.
