Artist Statement	This series of work focuses on thematic ideas about the human psyche. I am interested in portraying imagery that reflects my internal struggle with relating to personal questions about myself and how I interact with others using a metaphorical narrative. All of the drawings are referential to either my own experiences or events I have encountered. Figures are used as the main subject, since the human condition can undergo a variety of complex mental states. The mental state of any human being has the ability to change their appearance, health, and the way they connect with their day-to-day activities. My drawings are focused on exploring the dilemmas and questions that arise when someone is engaged on a darker path. A more macabre approach to my idea is appropriate due to the mental states in which I am focusing on. The overall focus is on the physical and mental state that the body takes on when concerning various disorders. The human mind has the ability to make decisions and store information about a wide range of activities and events, but it can also work against itself. The brain begins to see things for what they are not, and creates a world of illusion. This direction often takes one down the path of self destruction. These drawings are meant to show the cathartic nature of the human mind. The brain is a source of intelligence, but it can also work against itself by creating turmoil and false ideas about self worth. In turn, the mind can also enter a process of rejuvenation and eliminate distress over time. My imagery represents the time before the healing process, and when a person is at their lowest point. I would like to thank my mentor, Scott Anderson, all of the professors I have met throughout my years at Ball State, my family, and my friends for all of their support and guidance.
