Artist Statement	Fairytales and other stories have a special place in many people's hearts, especially mine. These stories tell children what's right from what's wrong, the basics of how to operate in society. However many adults see these stories as only for children. What changes when we are grow up? Do we no longer have to abide by these simple rules of good and evil? I wanted to take these ageless stories and make them into something more adult, something more real in an unreal sense. I wanted to have people overcome by the characters in living scenarios of the fantastic scenes; yet I still wanted to have these pictures portray a blasé, everyday life. There is a sense of macabre humor in my work that really seems to push the characters into this odd sense of being, this tends to bring it to the absurd. These are photographs, these are real at one point in their existence. Paper is one of the most used resources in the world today and most people see it as expendable. Making these masks out of paper was based on that fact, the ability to crumble it up and throw it away. However, these masks hide the model and their own Personality and give them a nonexistent character to portray. To create something that convincing out of such an innate object tends to make the statement even more overpowering. The blindfolded characters in my photos are on average the ones that are very pure and good, and at the same time very boring. They lack in the flaws of secondary characters that tend to push the story forward. Without these underdog characters there would be no actual story, and I want to give them their limelight in the fullest. Mostly I want to have the viewer look into themselves and see that the core of what they think of as right and wrong is sometimes based on a simple childhood story. There isn't a grandiose reason, it was just programmed into them since childhood.
