Artist Statement	My metalsmithing is born from a place of nostalgia. Historical aesthetics drive the central axis of my senior project. Referencing Japanese, Victorian, and Celtic cultures allows me to have a sense of connectedness with the past as well as bringing a feeling of modernity to these work. It is through traditional metalsmithing techniques and new technologies that my work is derived. By using enameling, marriage of metals, cutting and piercing, stone setting, and chasing and repoussé, I am giving an homage to metalsmithing techniques of long ago. I am contrasting these older techniques with newer ones by using the rapid rototype to make castings. This synthesis of ancient and modern technologies is important so these pieces have relevance to my contemporary aesthetics. In referencing the past, I have had to research Japanese, Victorian, and Celtic compositions and imagery. I am greatly influenced by the ornamental nature of art work from these time frames. It is through the intricacy of designing and technique that I create this work.
